Smashing Pumpkins Phoenix Concert reviews
It's not your mama's Color Purple
The talented cast delivered exceptional singing, dancing, and acting. The well-done set was overshadowed by the disappointing themes in the musical. The main theme of the production was the lesbian relationship, only implied in the movie. Mister took on the redemptive role of Shug Avery, leaving it largely unexplored. Highly erotic parts were present. The musical offered a different message and feel from the movie, possibly closer to the book. The actress who portrayed Sophia delivered an incredible performance. This musical is not a remake of Smashing Pumpkins (the movie). Not suitable for younger children.
